مقدمه
به دليل اهميت روز افزون نقش انرژي در جهان از يک طرف و تجديدناپذيري سوختهاي فسيلي و مسائل زيست محيطي ناشي از اين دسته از سوختها از طرف ديگر، در سالهاي اخير سرمايهگذاري و مطالعات چشمگيري به منظور تامين منابع مناسبي از سوختهاي جايگزين در کشورهاي مختلف جهان صورت گرفته است. در اين ميان سوختهاي زيستي (بيوديزل و بيواتانول)، يکي از مطلوبترين مواد جايگزين معرفي شده است. به عنوان نمونه، با توجه به قوانين موجود، اتحاديه اروپا موظف شده است تا سال 2020 در حدود 20% از سوختهاي مصرفي در موتور خودروهاي خود را از طريق سوختهاي زيستي تامين نمايد. همچنين ظرفيت توليد و ميزان تقاضا بيوديزل جهان در سالهاي اخير رو به رشد گذاشته و چشم انداز آينده آن نيز بسيار اميدوار کننده است.
بر اساس استاندارد، بيوديزل عبارت است از تركيب استرهاي مونوالكيلي زنجيره بلند اسيدهاي چرب حاصل از واكنش يك الكل با مواد ليپيدي تجديدپذير. در اغلب موارد، مهمترين منابع تامين ليپيدهاي تجديدپذير را چربيهاي حيواني و روغنهاي نباتي تشكيل ميدهد. بخش عمده اين روغن ها را تري گليسيريد ها تشكيل مي دهند. لذا، در اثر انجام اين واكنش علاوه بر استر، محصول ارزشمند ديگري به نام گليسيرين نيز حاصل ميشود. مشخصات استانداردي كه محصول سوختي حاصل از واكنش الكل با تري گليسيريد (واكنش ترانس استريفيكاسيون يا الكوليز) بايستي دارا باشد تا به عنوان بيوديزل شناخته شود، توسط استاندارد ASTM 6751 سنجيده مي شود.
